Au Pair Room Requirements
The Au Pair program requires host families to provide the Au Pair with a private room for the duration of their stay.

Au Pair Room Specifications:
Minimum size: At least 8 square meters
Natural lighting: Must have a window for daylight
Heating: Adequate heating system in cold climates
Furnished: Sufficient furniture provided
Private use: Exclusively for the Au Pair’s use
Key Rules:
The Au Pair’s room must be within the host family’s home/apartment (not a separate property).
Host families cannot deduct any accommodation costs from the Au Pair’s salary.
Host Family Responsibilities:
As a host family, you have several obligations during the Au Pair program. In addition to providing meals, a stipend, and insurance, you must also:
Accommodate the Au Pair in your home
Ensure their living space meets the required standards
Detailed Room Requirements:
✔ Minimum 8 sqm in size
✔ Natural light via a window
✔ Heating (if living in a cold climate)
✔ Lockable door for privacy
✔ Located within the host family’s home (essential for cultural exchange)
✔ Private use only (no sharing with children or other family members)
✔ Furnished (bed, wardrobe, desk, chair, shelves, optionally a radio/TV)
✔ Access to a bathroom
To avoid misunderstandings or disputes, clearly outline accommodation details in the Au Pair contract. This ensures both parties have correct expectations. During the program, the Au Pair is responsible for keeping their room clean.
